The UK airline is introducing complimentary fast in-flight internet via space-based partnership

Flyers aboard the airline are set to access high-speed internet onboard at no cost after a recent deal with SpaceX's space company.

Free and High-speed Internet Across the Board

The carrier announced that the free, “quick and reliable” connectivity service via SpaceX becomes offered for passengers in economy, premium economy, or first class as of soon.

Expanded Rollout Over Several Flight Operators

The umbrella company of British Airways, IAG, confirmed it had reached an deal with Starlink to provide wifi access across over 500 jets across their operators, including Aer Lingus, the Spanish carrier, plus Vueling.

Uninterrupted Wifi from Boarding through Arrival

BA noted that the introduction of this service formed part of a £7bn “transformation” program and will offer uninterrupted internet access for flyers starting at the gate through landing, also when traveling across oceans or isolated areas.

Customers may link multiple electronics while they will not require a unique password.

Existing Wifi Services

Limited connectivity service is presently available for BA flyers through the majority of its planes using its .air platform.

Enrollees of BA’s frequent flyer program are able to dispatch texts and text-only emails onboard at no cost, whereas travelers wishing to stream music, films, or movies throughout their flight and are not travelling in premium cabins may pay between £4.99 and £21.99 per connectivity plan.

Starlink’s Network

The provider operates a constellation of many thousands of spacecraft and it's managed by SpaceX’s aerospace firm.

Ongoing Upgrades for the Airline

The airline's management are working to revitalize the airline around after a period of cost cutting, IT problems, industrial action, and staff cuts.

BA stated that application of artificial intelligence has assisted the airline to achieve its timeliness at record highs from over a decade ago.

Profit Results

Earlier this year, BA disclosed a jump in operating profits for the first six months recently, helping to push its owner profit upward.

International Airlines Group is set to announce their earnings for the three months from July to September shortly.

Additional Starlink Partnerships

British Airways’ news follows shortly following mobile phone operator the telecom firm said it was working with Starlink to improve cellular coverage across remote areas of the UK, enabling customers to easily hook up phones using satellites when no regular cellular service is available.
